How to make a Sex On The Beach!
Say the full name when you order it. Clearly. Don't mumble it at the bar like you're embarrassed by your own drink. The name is part of the experience. The drink itself is forgiving, fruity, and looks like a sunset in a glass. Own it. Everyone who makes this at home is always glad they did.
The Ingredients
This is where the drink was always meant to be consumed. We're not telling you anything you don't know.
The Recipe
Fill a tall glass completely with ice.
Use a highball glass or the biggest glass that you own. This is a tall drink. It needs room and it needs cold.
Pour vodka and peach schnapps over the ice.
Together. At the same time. No particular order. Just in they go. Give it a very gentle stir.
Add the orange juice.
Pour it in steadily. The glass should be about three-quarters full now. Looking good. Looking orange. Looking like a plan.
Pour the cranberry juice slowly over the back of a spoon.
Hold a spoon just at the surface of the drink and pour the cranberry over it. It will sink slowly, creating a gradient from orange to red. This is the sunset. Don't stir it yet. Just look at it.
Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry. Take the photo first.
Stir before drinking if you like. Or let the layers mix as you drink. Either way works. Either way is correct.
š The spoon technique feels fiddly. It isn't.
The spoon slows the pour so the cranberry sinks instead of instantly mixing. You get about ten seconds of gradient before it blends, orange fading into red, which is exactly what the drink is named for. Pour it directly and you still get a great cocktail. You just lose the moment. And the moment is genuinely worth the extra three seconds.
